Eve Tesler wandered down the dark hallway. Madame Allegria’s brothel was well known in the Everton colony. She was willing to pay their steep thousand credits price for her first experience since the Krave were legendary lovers with skills that human men simply didn’t have. She stood at the door, afraid, but not willing to walk away back to her loneliness and a missed opportunity to find out what it was all about. If this could change her confidence, remove her fear, then she could stop hiding away and instead find happiness and someone to love.
Eve’s father had been a merchant trader and left everything to Eve when he died. Eve was 25 now and considered a spinster. She wanted love and respect from a partner, and had no intentions of marrying and having children if she wasn’t ready, despite society’s expectations. Her friend, Genni, came by to meet her for their trip to Restaurant Row. As they passed an alley, Mrs. Langley was leaving the Krave brothel and Ginni explained what it was. And that was when Eve decided to control her fear and make an appointment.
Eve had a short but magical evening with Khiva. He calmed her and was perfect in every way, even though she decided to go slowly and come back another time to “finish” things. She wanted to see him again. And her second appointment was everything she wanted it to be. But when she got home, Ginni was waiting on the front step and realized what she had done. She was hateful, judgmental, and cruel in her words, angry because her latest boyfriend had broken up with her.
After almost a month, Eve’s feelings for Khiva had not gone away. She replayed Ginni’s negative comments and realized they were not true. She wanted to see Khiva again, to see if he felt anything for her. She would need to take some of her inheritance this time, but just once… only she knew that once wouldn’t really be enough. But she had to know. So she used the credits to see Khiva once more. Not for his skills, but to find out if he felt what she did. Did he feel something for her? What could they do about it if he did?
This was a really good book, much different than others I had read. The detail and description was amazing and pulled the reader right into the story completely. The characters were so well defined that the reader knew them personally, and strongly felt the good things along with the painful. This book will take you on a journey like you’ve never experienced. I am so glad this is only the beginning.
