ALL THE SWOONS! No, seriously! This book is a new favorite by Jill Shalvis. I keep waiting for my girl crush on this author to wear off but she keeps delivering the best romance with the swooniest heroes and the sassiest heroines. On that note, I know this has been tagged as women's fiction but it has all the makings of a contemporary romance. So don't let that category turn you off!

In THE LEMON SISTERS, the third in Ms. Shalvis's Wildstone series, we meet, surprise, the Lemon sisters. Brooke lives in LA and only goes home sporadically. A surprise visit by her sister, Mindy, and her three kids, takes her back to her hometown, Wildstone. She's determined to find her old self, make amends with her estranged sister, apologize to the man she left without a word, and return to LA as a new/old Brooke. Running into Garrett, the only man she ever loved, goes as expected - where Brooke is concerned he is distant, sometimes even unfriendly and not amicable at all.

Over the course of the story we learn about the tragedy that happened to Brooke and how that affected her future. I think many women will sympathize with her. The reasons she left Wildstone made sense to me, although I'm not a fan of characters keeping secrets. I know it's an often used plot device - I trusted Jill Shalvis because she has never let me down. She didn't this time either. After the helicopter accident, that not only wrecked her body but also her confidence and spirit, the reckless love for life she'd always had, she built walls around her heart. Brooke didn't let anyone in. No one. My heart was heavy with sadness for her - even when she was surrounded by people she was lonely.

Garrett doesn't feel very benevolent towards Brooke - this woman did a number on him yet when she returns the pull is still there. He is so determined not to get caught in her web again because he was left one too many times. Having grown up in the system he knows much about abandonment and he's still dealing with the issues that come with it. Brooke's leaving without a single word destroyed him because she was his everything and he, too, has learned to harden his heart.

As always this author gives us a charismatic, beautiful, soulful man who is loyal and patient to a fault. I have yet to read a book with a douche by Jill Shalvis. I'm not holding my breath. I loved Garrett, so so much, how accepting he was, how he kept telling himself to not fall for his ex-girlfriend.He was so conflicted about his still strong feelings for Brooke and his abandonment issues and fear of having his heart broken again. And yet, despite all his denying that he would, he fell again.

Brooke had all my love too. When these two learned to trust one another and in each other again, the spirited, vivacious, sweet young woman Brooke used to be, appeared under the rubble of the tragedy. And she was wonderful with all her quirks and OCD.
They had undeniable chemistry that burned up the pages and, fair warning, your ovaries may be in danger of exploding. I just wanted to smoosh their faces together and tell them to get over it already!
I'll put a trigger warning here, because I know some women may find this story hard to read (view spoiler)

There is a third POV from which we learn about Mindy's marital issues. I wasn't a huge fan of her with her know-it-all attitude and her nagging for a long while but she grew on me. She lashed out at her sister but I had to give her some leeway because she didn't know the full extent of the reason why Brooke had walled herself off. I adored Mindy's husband, Lincoln, who wanted nothing more to lighten his wife's burden and give her everything she wanted. Their children were another highlight in this book. I loved them all but Maddox, the youngest little man, who barked instead of talked...man, I wanted to adopt him right away. He was the best, the funniest and sweetest kid I've read about. So freaking cute.

We all know these books, the ones we don't want to end yet we need to know that things will be alright. THE LEMON SISTERS is one of those. I could have read about Brooke and Garrett's HEA forever - although I was done I just wanted more.

I love the small town feel of this series and that it feels more like romance than women's fiction. Jill Shalvis is a fixture on my reading list - her warm, sweet, beautiful stories light up my day. This story has everything we love as readers: a surprising dose of angst, hilarious banter, nuggets of wisdom, relatable, lovable characters and because it's Jill Shalvis, lots of animals. This book can be read as a standalone but trust me when I say you will want to read the previous stories too. I'm leaving Wildstone with a book hangover and I'll be waiting patiently until I have the next in this series in my hands.

Brooke Lemon was always been as free spirited as her sister, Mindy, was the responsible and perfect one. But when Mindy knocks on Brooke’s door, what Brooke sees isn’t the perfect and put together sister she has always known but a woman in the throes of a breakdown with three kids in toe. When Brooke agrees to trade places for a few days with Mindy so she can pick up the pieces and figure out how to get back to the person she once was, Brooke finds herself with three kids and on her way to Wildstone, the small town she called home once. But once there, she finds that the man she once loved and if she is honest with herself, still loves, is still there, handsome as ever. But as the Lemon sisters figure out the way back to themselves can they find the peace they are searching for even as the love they long for is right there in front of them?

THE LEMON SISTERS is a great addition to Jill Shalvis’s Wildstone series. I loved Brooke and Mindy Lemon and Mindy’s kids are a hoot. What really intrigued me was both Mindy and Brooke finding out that they need changes int heir lives but had no idea on how to even start the process of looking for those said changes. Brooke is dealing with an on the job accident and Mindy is, so self-contained it’s a wonder she hasn’t combusted before now. I love all the characters in this series and each book is one where you can read as a stand alone and don’t necessarily have to read past books to understand some things. But I highly recommend the first books as well since they are just as fun and compelling as THE LEMON SISTERS.

Meet Brooke and Mindy Lemon. Sisters who are broken even as they pretend nothing is wrong. Mindy can’t take it anymore and shows up on Brooke’s doorstep with her three kids in toe to beg for some relief for a few days. Brooke is trying to deal with her issues but keeps pretending all is well. When she agrees to help Mindy, what Brooke finds is more than the peace she craves but something that will show her the way back to herself again. I love Mindy and Brooke. They are complete opposite. Brooke is the wild child, free spirited one of the sisters and Mindy is very self-contained and controlling to a degree. I loved how the author conveys each sisters’ personalities and within the story and keeps the reader rooting for both sisters to find their own version of peace and love. The characters are well written, wonderfully relatable and the scenery within THE LEMON SISTERS makes me want to visit Wildstone one of these days if its real. Add in some wonderful secondary characters that deliver some fun scenes and three kids that are downright adorable, well you got all the right notes for this reader to fall in love with the book and this series.

THE LEMON SISTERS is more about two sisters finding their way again, as an individual and as sisters but also about second chances, friendship, love, family and more. The author does an amazing job in keeping the reader glued to the pages of the book as you read the twists and turns of Brooke and Mindy’s journey as well as meet some of the residents of Wildstone. The story flows so smoothly, I never looked up to see what time it was nor make dinner till I read that very last page. THE LEMON SISTERS is a sweet and wonderful story that will tug on your heartstrings and keep you glued to the pages of the book till the very end. I can’t wait to see where the author goes next in this little town.

When Brooke's older sister, Mindy, shows up on her doorstep with her three children and looking like she's about to breakdown, there's nothing for Brooke to do but step in and offer help. This offer of help leads Brooke back to Wildstone, a place she left seven years ago with barely a glance back. But things in Brooke's life have been not feeling quite right not since an on-the-job accident nearly took Brooke's life. Much like Mindy, Brooke knows something has to change and she figures going back home will start her on the path to healing and moving forward.

When she runs into her former love Garrett, Brooke begins to realize that moving on may be harder than she previously thought. But facing the past will come with revelations in love and in sisterhood.

For me, The Lemon Sisters was a perfect stay-up-all-night second-chance romance. I'm a sucker for the second chance romances and Jill Shalvis certainly delivered. The chemistry and attraction between Brooke and Garrett just leaps off the page and I found myself feeling giddy with every interaction they had. I really liked the way Jill Shalvis slowly builds up the past hurts and issues between them, but with the realization that it doesn't matter as much because the feelings they have for each other are still there. Despite the feelings, however, is the fact that they do have to work through the issues before they can happily move on. Brooke's leaving hurt Garrett on a fundamental level which brings up things in his past that he hasn't yet fully dealt with either.

On a more secondary level, but nonetheless still important, we have Mindy Lemon and the problems she's facing being a working mother of three with a doctor husband who is at the practice more than he's home leaving Mindy with the task of doing everything else. It's daunting and exhausting and an issue that many mothers face: the imbalance of the home life. For Mindy, she's at her breaking point, but other than that, it causes her to take a look at the life she currently has and question whether or not it's still what she wants in the way she wants it. I felt like Mindy and Linc's (her husband) story takes more of the background regardless of Mindy getting her own Points of View within the book, but I wished we got a little more depth to their relationship. I felt like we were almost there, but could have gone a little deeper in terms of how Mindy and Linc come to terms with the changing dynamic of their marriage and what they plan to do about it in order to stay happily married, or on the other hand if not being married would be the solution.

Mainly, I felt like this book was more self-contained than the previous two books. It took place in Wildstone, but there was very little interaction with those outside of the quartet of Brooke, Garrett, Mindy, and Linc. Whereas I felt like the previous two books relied a little more on community interaction. I think it's because each character is from Wildstone originally. They're already familiar with the land and the area, the people to a certain extent, so the focus is placed more internally with the issues that the group have to come to terms with either individually or with each other - as is the case with Brooke and Garrett, and Brooke and Mindy, and Mindy and Linc respectively.

So far, I think this one is my favorite of the Wildstone series. It stands perfectly well on its own so if you start with the Lemon Sisters you should be fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars We are heading back to the wonderful wild town of Wildstone .....

Brooke and Mindy Lemon both grew up in Wildstone and while Mindy stayed in Wildstone, Brooke left and headed out to explore the world. Although they are sisters, they are worlds apart in how they view things. Mindy was the golden child who could do no wrong ever, Brooke had a spirit of adventure that could not be contained by the mere boundaries of Wildstone. Brooke had an innate need to be a wanderer.

But something happened to Brooke during one of her globe trotting adventures that left her broke. Brooke nearly died during an adventure and it left her broken on the inside as well but she refused to talk to anyone about it.

Mindy has followed her path to being the perfect daughter and got married and had three lovely spirited children and a husband who adored her. Except that sometimes perfection isn’t all it is cracked up to be and you end up cracked.

Mindy arriving on Brooke’s doorstep in Los Angles with all three children in tow is the start of this romp through the boundaries of sisterhood, life and love.

Mindy is on the verge of a complete and total breakdown when she shows up on Mindy’s doorstep. Brooke steps up and takes over by telling her sister to stay at her place in Los Angles while she takes the children back to Wildstone and that she will stay with them while Mindy tries to pull herself together.

Going back to Wildstone is hard on Brooke since Garrett is there. Garrett is the love of her life even though she can’t admit to that plus she left him behind when she left 7 years ago. Brooke left Wildstone with a huge secret hidden away from everyone and this secret needs to be dealt with as part of healing what is broken inside her. Brooke has not been back to Wildstone in seven years. Going back to deal with her sister’s kids and facing her demons is a huge step for Brooke.

Mindy decides to take the time she has been given by her sister and complete relax and try to get herself together. She also has to figure out what is going on in her marriage. Brooke’s friends help Mindy relax and get herself back to together and realize that being perfect isn’t always the answer.

Mindy’s children are all rather unique and like their mother and aunt have their own quirks. They almost steal the show in many ways. Mindy’s husband is adorable and willing to put up with his wife’s quirks and just plain and simple loves her as she is.

This book is one that I did not want to have end. Okay, I say that about every Jill Shalvis novel but this one just made me want to find a quiet spot and read. It can be made better by having some hot tea and a slice of lemon tea cake or bread to have next to you while you read it.

I did receive a copy of this novel in advance from the author in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. I do admit to a bias though in that I love the writings of Jill Shalvis.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this is Jill Shalvis’ best book…since her last one 😉

I have my best ideas in the shower, and again, I found the answer. The reason why I love Jill Shalvis’s romance stories is that her characters are looking for their happy place. That’s it. The heroine isn’t looking for a billionaire to drape her in diamonds. She’s not looking for a superstar to guide her into the spotlight. A biker…mafia man…hitman isn’t called for to show her a bit of the dark side. Jill Shalvis creates heroine’s that are just looking for someone to share their happy place. Someone to share the good times with the bad. The person who will put them first and expects the same. These women just want to love and be loved, put first and not forgotten about. I get it because it’s realistic and, in some ways, that is what we should all be hoping to attain.

I LOVED meeting and getting to know Brooke and her sister Mindy, Linc, Mindy’s husband, and Garrett, Brooke’s first love. These four people were awesome in their own way but completely flawed. They all have outstanding attributes that made them shine, alongside characteristics that, while negative, also made them themselves. No one is perfect, they realise this and they know expecting perfection is unrealistic. What made them even better characters was their ability to acknowledge their flaws and accept that they needed to work on them.

The Lemon Sisters took me on an emotional journey and left me extremely satisfied. I laughed, cried, squirmed and sighed. While the main four characters were riveting, we were also treated to some very special additional characters. Mindy and Linc’s kids were so cute and I loved seeing their quirkiness accepted and encouraged. Brooke’s friends from her job were amazing and I really would love a story for both Tommy and Cole (I think that was their names).

Seriously, I can not recommend this book highly enough. I guess the reason why I loved it so much was because it put me in my happy place. Last night, I was lucky enough to hit the trifecta…a fantastic book to read, a glass of wine in my hand and hubby making me dinner and singing off-key to make me smile. Who could ask for more???

Thank you, Jill Shalvis, your words made my day.

Stacey is Sassy, received an advanced copy of this story. The copy provided is not the final copy and may be subject to edits and changes.

About the book:
Brooke Lemon has always led the life she wanted, wild adventures—and mistakes—included, something her perfect sister, Mindy, never understood. So when Mindy shows up on Brooke’s doorstep in the throes of a break-down with her three little kids in tow, Brooke’s shocked.

Wanting to make amends, Brooke agrees to trade places, taking the kids back to Wildstone for a few days so Mindy can pick up the pieces and put herself back together. What Brooke doesn’t admit is she’s just as broken . . . Also how does one go home after seven years away? It doesn’t take long for Brooke to come face-to-face with her past, in the form of one tall, dark, sexy mistake. But Garrett’s no longer interested. Only his words don’t match his actions, leaving Brooke feeling things she’d shoved deep.

Soon the sisters begin to wonder: Are they lemons in life? In love? All they know is that neither seems to be able to run far enough to outpace her demons. And when secrets surface, they’ll have to learn that sometimes the one person who can help you the most is the one you never thought to ask.

I absolutely loved this story, the characters were great! I love how it all turn out, the setting is brilliant!
I'm looking forward to the next one in this series. I highly recommend reading this series.

Let me start by saying that Jill Shalvis is one of my go-to authors. It doesn't matter what she writes I know I will love it. The Lemon Sisters is a sure winner. The relationship between sisters can be very complicated. Such is the case with Brooke and Mindy Lemon.

Brooke was the carefree sister that loved traveling the world doing photography. Then she was involved in a helicopter crash. She survived but was badly injured. At the time she was pregnant and lost the baby along with all her other injuries. From this point on she had very little contact with the people she loved. Garrett was her boyfriend at the time and he didn't hear from her for seven years. He was devastated.

Mindy was the sister that Brooke was jealous of. In Brooke's mind Mindy had it all. A great husband, three children, the perfect life. That was until Mindy showed up at her door with her children in tow in a complete meltdown. Brooke knew this was serious as they hadn't seen each other in years. She knew she had to help her sister. No matter how much time has lapsed the love between sisters doesn't go away.

From this point on you will read how Mindy and Brooke are able to get things back on track.. Brooke will also meet with Garrett and try to explain why she did what she did. You really have to read the book to find out how everything is resolved. It's a wonderful read that you won't regret.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect 'Sisters' book to share with your biological sisters or the sisters of your heart

Sisters. You can be alike or different, but when you need each other, you really need each other.

Mindy, the 'Golden Child'. Perfect marriage. Perfect kids. Perfect Life. Perfectly miserable.

Brooke, the 'Wanderer'. Extreme travel photographer. No commitments. No love life. No job. Nothing.

Mindy shows up at Brooke's apartment with her three kids in tow. She needs a break.

Brooke decide to take the kids back to Wildstone so Mindy can really have a break...because she really needs it, and hey, Brooke is really NOT doing what she says she is, and getting out of town might be the best thing for her.

The kids are a hoot!! I loved all of the scenes they were in. Perfect characterization, and you can tell the author has 'done time' parenting!

In my opinion, this is a book about relationships. Sisters and how they relate to each other. Husbands who might not be as sensitive about the things his wife is going through, not because he's indifferent, but he just doesn't know. Old loves and how they can become right, even though leaving was the correct decision the first time around. Children and how they impact their parents lives. Friends and the close relationships you have with them. Loving with your whole heart. Forgiving and understanding and going forward.

Great book.

I liked the story, but I found Brooke too wishy-washy for my taste. I understand why she wanted to have some alone time to heal, but seven years? I thought that she and her sister were both a tad on the paranoid side. And it is both not 'THE both". Please, editor, do your job! The arc of the story line was good and the dialog was witty.
I tried listening to the audiobook and bought the kindle book because the narrator was so bad. Could she not stop and get a drink of water? Or maybe even that wouldn't have helped. Her voice was perpetually gravelly and not in a good way. She tried to deepen her voice for the male characters which only served to increase the gravel. All the male characters sounded the same. It would have been better to voice the characters in her natural voice. The reader can discern who is speaking by the wording and context. I will never even try to listen to another book by this narrator.
