I am a huge Mitch Rapp fan - and IMHO, Kyle Mills did a fabulous job in ORDER TO KILL, but this one missed its mark. The first thing that jumped out at me that something was "off" about this book was that Irene Kennedy was MIA - now, I fully realize that according to the scenario of the book, IK had to be MIA, as well as Scott Coleman, having been severely injured and almost killed, but if you take away IK and SC from MR's "team", you have effectively removed some critical pieces from the missions that MR needs to navigate. SC and IK are characters that even go back to TERM LIMITS before MR even came on the scene, so, again, they are critical players in the Vince Flynn and MR stories. IK is the master strategist, SC is the master of logistics, and MR of course is the master assassin, but without IK and SC, MR is not really able to perform as he has in the past. Some people also complained that Claudia effectively "compromised" MR's performance, however, I believe that she can in fact become a critical player for the team if her character is properly developed - she obviously has considerable talents and was apparently the brains behind the success of her late husband Louis Gould who was just about as good as MR when it came to being a deadly assassin. Hopefully, Kyle Mills will get back to form in his next book and once again bring out the real characters of MR, IK, SC, and Claudia.
And for those of you who have not read ORDER TO KILL - read it and you will see how critically important IK is to MR and the books - IK is critical to MR in getting him in and out of countries when needed, she interfaces with POTUS, she's the liaison with the heads of foreign countries - you cannot possibly have IK MIA. OTK was KM's best book and one of the best MR books.
