How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Peter Robinson is undoubtedly one of the best procedural crime writers ever; and his Inspector Banksโ€™ books are his best.

I have read many of his later books, but I was very pleased to have a Kindle offer on Wednesdayโ€™s Child, one of the earlier novels. I found it interesting to get to know Banks before he had lost his wife, and he became the lonely soul he would later be.

Beyond the unsurpassed characters, this story about an abducted young girl was gripping. I highly recommend this book to fans of Robinson and Banks but also to anyone who likes to get lost in a great book. Each book stands alone as a tour de force.

Since this is a series the plot lines tend to be standard once you've read several. However, the main characters do grow & change over time so that there is a progression in terms of the important characters. It is an enjoyable book to read, sometimes I wonder where he developed his clues but overall I would recommend.

This mystery is about child abduction which is terrifying enough but deaths happen as the story proceeds yet the child is not located. It's fascinating and shows the bizarre side of life. Couldn't put it down.

I love the way Robinson builds up the plot slowly. There is always a surprise. So much more enjoyable than the American who done its with all the gratuitous four letter word

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Fine Entry in Enjoyable Series

"Wednesdayโ€™s Child," by Peter Robinson, is the sixth novel in his Inspector Alan Banks series. A young woman has let her 7-year-old daughter be taken into custody by a pair of social workers, only to realize later that they have actually abducted the child. Given that she never really warmed to the child to begin with, she is somewhat reluctant to report the crime to the police, but eventually Inspector Alan Banks is called upon to investigate - at least until an unrelated crime, a vicious murder, captures his intention. Or are they unrelated?.... I really enjoy this series by Peter Robinson, partly for the well-drawn characters, partly for the fairly-clued and rather complex plots, and partly for the setting in the Yorkshire Dales of Great Britain. "Wednesdayโ€™s Child" (the name derives from the rhyme, said child being โ€œfull of woeโ€) contains all those qualities, plus some interesting insights into Banks and especially his superior officer, Superintendent Gristhorpe. Itโ€™s not necessary to have read the previous novels in the series to enjoy this one, although doing so always adds depths of understanding to the readerโ€™s pleasure, of course; recommended!

This is a series I started a while ago and I read some of the more recent ones and decided to go back to the beginning.
This is the third used book I have purchased and found it to be in very good condition. Extremely pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Robinson Winner

"Wednesday's Child" is another outstanding offering from the talented Peter Robinson. Each of his books are carefully constructed police procedurals and Robinson consistently exhibits an ability to build sensitivity, tension and character into each of his novels. This one features Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks, the star of most of his novels, but it also gives added dimension to another favorite Robinson character, Detective Superintendent Gristhorpe. The two of them, with their loyal, able Yorkshire police comrades, methodically track down the kidnapper of a little girl. As in all the other Robinson novels, the bad guy is usually not who you think it is. And by the ending, you know that you have read a book written by a literary craftsman. I look forward to reading many more Peter Robinson books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good read from this author...

I'm working my way through this series very happily. Almost all of them have been top shelf in my estimation. Oddly enough some of the more recent ones are the hardest to find new, even on Amazon. I still haven't Kindled partially because of this series. For older paperback books there really should be some type of discount. I can get the same book in paper brand new or I can pay the same and just get the Kindle version. I do a lot of "author discovery" reading, I'd rather have to be to give away if it comes down to it... Anyway, this series is probably one of my favorite finds of the last couple of years. If you haven't read him, start from the beginning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Robinson novel!

This is one of 15 of very well written detective procedural books primarily taking place in and around Yorkshire, UK. Even though the town of Eastvale is fictional, Robinson describes the area well and his writing gives one a taste of an area of England that is certainly different from that of the more well-known south. Sometimes his stories are incidental to the characters and the texture of the environment he writes about, but the search for the perpetrators of crime keeps one addicted...
