As an elementary teacher at a school for 19 years in the area where children were murdered in SE Atlanta at this time, and as a Saturday volunteer searching for missing children, I was so intrigued to read this book after reading about the Oprah selection in the Atlanta newspaper. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed on many levels. Not deep enough, same voice throughout, and the author’s references were from living in another area, Oglethorpe, on the other side of town from the murders. Not the inner city. Just disappointed with her perspective, after personally experiencing such a horrific time for my students and families. Very surprised Oprah celebrated it. Well, not really, though.
