Jarrett Martin had more jumps before his 18th than most skydivers do in a lifetime. Then he got really serious - BASE jumping & speed flying. One day, the summer after high school, his parachute failed to open. What happened next will blow you away...
This was a very interesting documentary. Jarrett is an admirable passionate risk-taker and his film aptly chronicles the build up to his nearly fatal parachute malfunction and the come-down after the event. We crash with him and see the images and hear the sounds of a severely injured human being. It broke my heart. As one familiar in working with individuals with chronic and acute health problems, it is difficult watching Jarrett base jump as a para following his tragic injury. I admire his guts and determination and the early scenes brought back memories of my first skydives. I liked Sky High, but did not love it. It is hard to watch at times. I found it both amazing, gut-wrenching and exhilarating. It is also a very sad commentary on the hunger this sweet guy has for a consummate thrill.
Awesome! I'm a documentary freak and, thus, can be quite critical. But this film left nothing to critisize. It is professionally made (and for only $15k on KickStarter???), moves well, creates interest and dialogue with Jarrett himself is great (as are his family members and friends!!). He speaks well, never drags on monotonously, tells his story with genuine feeling. So AWESOME. I love how he has found a new life that he speaks of with such enthusiasm. Such a cool role model on how to love life. How to love YOUR life and live it to the MAX. Great movie. Definitely worth your time!! Highly reccommend.
Quite a good video of an adventurist, and a resilient young man. This fellow is somewhat like John Cameron Swayze used to say about Timex watches- "it takes a licking and keeps on ticking". Jarrett is not only ticking but has sped up. Most would have given up but not this guy (or his father for that matter). I'm pretty proud of Jarrett. I imagine his family and friends are in orbit.
Jarrett Martin's determination and drive to continue pursuing his passions, even after that passion led to an accident costing him the use of his legs, is a great example to us all. The film's director did a great job telling the story in a way that kept me watching, even after I got the gist of the story. With extreme sports, disaster always lurks, and she captured that tension right to the very end.
