Most everyone recognizes the name Stormy Daniels. We know the lurid details of her affair with Trump. We know she is a stripper and a porn star. Now, we meet the real Stormy Daniels, also known as Stephanie Clifford.
Stephanie prefers the name Stormy, and as Michael Avenatti says in the forward to this book, Stormy tells it all. Born to a beautiful young woman and a dad with a Cherokee heritage, Stormy had the right combination of looks and intelligence. Stormy’s mom wanted a boy, and her dad did not want any children at all. Stormy grew up knowing she needed to fight for what she wanted. Her dad was an engineer, and left her mom after his time away in Alaska. Life after this was difficult for Stormy.
She grew up in Baton Rouge, but they had moved around a lot. Her childhood was filled with poverty, neglect and abuse. When Stormy was nine she was sexually abused by an older man. She was not believed by those she told, in particular by her mother. Not all her life was sad, she had a pet horse and crushes on movie stars like many of us did. Stormy started stripping while she was in high school, which led to the porn industry. She is now a writer, director and star. In fact she has won many awards for her writing and directing, and was profiled in The New Yorker.
Stormy most of all wants control of her story. She gives us tidbits of her life that engage us, she has been married three times, she decided to get breast implants in 1998 because she noticed bigger breasts brought bigger tips. She named her implants, Thunder and Lightening. Stormy has a sense of humor, but she is a businesswoman at heart. She believes in capitalism, and she has always been a realist. And, she is smart, we can tell from her writing and she lets us know many times. Stormy is, most of all her own woman. Now, a woman of wealth, she is not sitting back on her laurels. She wants her story told in her way.
Stormy May help to change the way we look at women. There are those who look down on her profession, but she has made her own mark. No apologies from her. She became a public person after her affair with Trump was made public. Now she is the one capitalizing on that. That story is a few chapters in. She tells the story of Cohen and the pay off, and there is more than you thought.
Stormy is complex, like all of us, but she is never boring.
I like Stormy, she is upfront, tells us who she is, and we can like it or not.
