The nihilism and pointless action doesn't carry the richness of the ideas.

What made this show great was the interplay of complex ideas and the richly layered storytelling -- all interwoven in interesting character development and unpredictable plot. But the tropes are beginning predictable and the plot feels so flat. The nihilism was more interesting earlier on, but now is just a really annoying plot device that fills in the lack of idea development that carried the earlier seasons. The idea that was the climax should have been developed much more instead of being revealed and then dropped as a climax. I was really looking forward to this, but I found it quite disappointing.

The first few seasons of this re-boot were fantastic. The last two seasons not so much.
I have been a fan of the concept of westworld since the 70s. Sometimes imagining being a guest and more often, being the rogue host. This re-boot's first 2 seasons were wonderful and fully met expectations. The next two, not so much.
The transition into the real world that started season 3 was poorly executed in my humble opinion. And season 4 was a confused nightmare. The audience not having any noticeable distinctions from one world to another and the shallow as hell details about humans fate, not to mention how the world had matrix like function AND then she went into the sublime? Plus as another spoke about the illogical and incessant nihilism.

It is sad that Sam was the most easy understood character, because the other roles motivations and interactions with others was so disjointed, vague and vapid, it made me sad. Seriously flawed writing. Acting was as good as ever. Just sad the cast had to be subjected to the S4-E8 script.
