ANTES DE TUDO: A capa da série é só uma Jacket.

A história é narrada em terceira pessoa, dando um ponto de vista imparcial aos personagens. A narrativa é mostrada de forma não-linear, contando com vários flashbacks.

Tudo começa, quando uma mansão em Shaker Heights, acaba sendo incendiada. A casa possui pequenos incendios por toda parte dos cômodos. Há indícios de que seja um incêndio criminoso.Quem poderia ter feito tal atrocidade, e por qual motivo?

A partir desse fato, a narrativa começa a ser feita meses antes do incidente, onde duas famílias com modos de vida e poderes aquisitivos distintos, se encontram e se relacionam, mas será que tudo é o que parece? Segredos rodeiam esses núcleos familiares. O livro aborda vários temas como arte, preconceito e desigualdade social, mas é focado principalmente na maternidade.

A princípio achei o livro lento, só comecei a me engajar na leitura quase na página 100. O que não tira o mérito do livro em nenhum minuto, pois isso é intencional, dar "pequenos incêndios" em sua narrativa, para no final nos surpreendemos com as chamas finais. Por fim, recomendo a leitura para todos, só não dou 5 estrelas pelo final em aberto.

Curiosidade: A autora do livro Celeste NG, também já morou em Shaker Heights.
