When Steve Higgs wrote his debut novel, Paranormal Nonsense, he was a captain in the British Army. He would like to pretend that he had one of those careers that must be blacked out and generally denied by the government, and that he has to change his name and move constantly because he is still on the watch list in several countries. In truth, though, he started out as a mechanic - not like Jason Statham in the film by that name, sneaking around as a hitman, but more like one of those sleazy guys who charges a fortune and keeps your car for a week even though the only thing you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, he was largely disinterested in all subjects except creative writing, for which he won his first prize at the age of ten. However, calling it the first prize he won suggests that there were other prizes, which is not the case. Awards may yet come, but in the meantime, he enjoys writing mystery and thriller novels and claims to have more than a hundred books forming a restless queue in his mind because they are desperate to be written.

Now retired from the military, he lives in southeast England with a duo of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, he doubts he'll ever leave, the beer is just too good.

It is a wonderful adult read without a lot of sex and profanity. It’s a book you could listen to in front of your kids. But it’s very exciting. Funny and witty. I'm currently on book four and thoroughly enjoying these book but I have a suggestion for mr. higgs. Take a cruise! There are several instances where the information is just wrong. 1. People can't just get on and off a cruise ship. Even sneaking off would be almost impossible. This happens several times in the books and it's just not possible. 2. Cruise ships have cameras almost everywhere; in the halls, on the decks and especially to view over the rail to detect a man overboard situation. 3. Paying for a cabin does not mean another person can join you without paying. If you have someone join you, they need to pay the same fare you did.
I'm working hard a "letting it go" because the books really are fun, but sometimes it's really hard.

Patricia is a middle aged woman who finds her husband with her best friend in a compromising situation. Angry she empties the bank account and books the most expensive suite on a luxury cruise. Costing over £80,000 for the 3 month cruise, she panics and decides to disembark at the first port and get a refund. This is the start of a series that shows her getting involved in murders, thefts and espionage. I loved the characters, especially Barbie and Jermaine, but throw in a handsome captain and a cute dachshund, to the other characters for maximum fun. I was envious of Patricia's spirit, bravery, intellect and likability which gave her so much fun.

This must be the best medicine possible for the COVID-19 lockdown. I read through all ten books non-stop, I literally couldn't put it down. The characters are well developed and steam through situations that would have James Bond in a panic. Somehow they always win through. It is entertainment at it's very best. Steve is an author I will follow with great interest. I would highly recommend these books to anyone who wants to escape from life's trials and tribulations.

Stumbled on these by accident and decided to give them a try and haven't laughed so much while reading in a long time. Whilst some of the storylines are a little bit far fetched, that just adds to the quirkiness of the series, making the books all the more enjoyable. I even ended up being banned from reading them I bed as I was keeping my hubby awake laughing at Patricia and her friends antics.

When Patricia walks in on her husband of 30 years and her best friend of more than 50 years betraying her in the worst way, she decides to empty all their bank accounts and finally take that cruise she's always wanted to go on. In her distressed state she ends up blowing all the money on a cruise around the World for 3 months, staying in the most expensive suite on the ship.

What is supposed to be a relaxing holiday turns into disaster after disaster as she's accused of murder within hours and fights to clear her name, alongside her trusted butler and the gym instructor. They comically, but very accurately, take on mystery after mystery solving each of them. However, nothing is plain sailing and they get into a fair amount of trouble and danger along the way.

Very light hearted and easy read and would happily recommend.

Currently on book 4 and so far have found the stories far fetched and a bit of a jumble to read. Disappointed in the printing as many words wrong too. Although each story follows the other I am not sufficiently gripped to find out what happens to our super sleuth to continue reading the others.
