This is a very easy tent to setup and breakdown. Without exaggeratlng, it takes no more than 1-2 minutes to set it up or take it down. Even faster the more experience you have with it. I find the quick setup pretty reliable but sometimes the leg joints don't quite cooperate and you do have to manually straighten them out and help them lock into place. But it's still easy even in that scenario.
The tent doorway has a vestibule if you stake it out properly. This is where you can keep your muddy boots or shoes rather than take them into the tent. But it's a little clunky getting into the tent through the vestibule since it does not roll up unless it is actually unstaked first.
Inside, the tent has two small, mesh storage pockets, one on each side. The front door has a dual zipper pulls but the door is semi-circular and unzips around the outside, not down the middle. There is a back window that is unique in that it has a way to open it sort of like a vent in addition to just the normal way. It is protected from rain in this position and still allows some ventilation.
The floor is a "tub" design... no seams on the bottom and the floor wraps up several inches which makes it great at keeping water out as long as there are no holes in the floor. It's always a good idea to use a footprint under your tent to protect from rocks, sticks or whatever from puncturing your tent floor.
This is not a tent you'll be standing up in, unless you are very short. It's actually got quite a lot of height though (54" in center of tent) compared to other 4-person tents I've been in. And it is quite spacious inside for a 4-person tent. You can actually sleep 4 people in the tent.
The tent stores in a zippered nylon bag. You also get 12 tent stakes of fairly low quality... just your basic aluminum bent "wire" type stakes. And there is a small square "hub cover" that goes over the very top portion of the tent and covers the hub. Four clips attach to each of the four long poles.
This is not really a heavy duty backpackers tent but more of a casual camping tent, or just great for in the backyard or park. It's a single wall construction so in heavy weather, it's not really going to be the best choice. For fair weather and 3 seasons, it will do a nice job for the casual camper.
It isn’t the most resilient material but i think in reasonable weather that is definitely a pro as it is extremely lightweight so its something that could even be thrown over your shoulder. As a tent for a casual day outing I think its hard to beat really whether it be the park or even the beach.
I love the way this actual sets up although its a bit like tying to raise and unwieldy umbrella but it beats tying to find pole pieces that I have the possibility to loose. You can’t loose the mechanism that makes it a tent which is where I am a fan - sure you could loose of forget the stakes but I’ve done that many times and you can usually just rig something up and get it to happen. The downside to that is you just have to be careful packing and unpacking the tent as like an unwieldy umbrella if you damage any of the spokes it isn’t going to work as intended.
Things to note - you can’t stand up in it and yes it will sleep four people although you are either friends of will need to become them due to the proximity. Far more roomy as a two person tent but that is a call you make as you see it. It has a few entrance points and probably count on the kids rolling in and out of the back flap - I would if I was still a kid but I can see parental lectures on that one to little Jimmy and Sally who will think its a game.
The carry bag is great and attributes to the compactness of this. In fact given its size I think it could be taken as a casual tent to be pitched if the weather allows as it doesn’t take up much space at all.
I reviewed a few Lightspeed products and am very enthusiastic about their air bed I had been using - quality stuff and decent prices I’m looking forward to taking this one the next camping trip. Whilst this tent isn’t for every situation it is a real solid buy as a fair weather tent and I have rated it accordingly.
