The mystery was good, lots of ideas to sort through to get to the truth. Definitely a twist at the end.

I didn't find much new depth on the secondary characters though. If you haven't read the previous books, you won't really know them. I did like the chapters from the victims' point of view, although those felt really sad and tragic.

The scenery was handled well, not overly detailed but just right. I got a real mental picture for some of the Outer Banks area. It made me want to visit, especially the lighthouses.

I took off only one star because really the book was very good even if not as exciting as the previous.

For those readers who read the previous books in this series and wondered how the author would be able to pull off another book when it seemed to be wrapped up, no worries - Spangler seamlessly continues the series with many of the same characters returning in a way that totally makes sense.

This latest in the series involves murder, kidnapping and even a creepy clown! But at the heart of the story is Detective Casey White who continues to be relatable as well as smart and empathetic. The story is well-paced. Spangler’s descriptions of the various settings and characters paint a vivid picture for the reader.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series. If you haven’t read the prior books in the series, there is enough of the background presented so that the current book makes sense. But if you’re looking for a worthwhile series, this one is worth investing in. Enjoy!

This story is fast paced as Casey and her team work well together finding pieces of the puzzle maybe a photo or a note or noticing a person's actions or response to a question can mean the difference in missing a clue and finding the suspect, this story has 2 different cases even though at first you think it's one.
Sadness comes to the team and even I felt so sad. I wish Jericho would find someone who isn't Casey at the end of this story my heart broke for him, read this and find out why?
