Don't know how she does it but KIKI surely finds trouble without even trying. Her "Time in a Bottle" store is doing well and her classes even better. But two of her customers/students have had a falling out and are not speaking to one another so Kiki tries to ignore their behaviour and continue to teach the class. But it becomes apparent to everyone so Kiki tries to get her class to work on their projects so they have something else to occupy their time. Suddenly one of the two announces that she and her husband are divorcing which makes the rest of the group feel bad for her and they pay attention to her. This upsets the other classmate and so starts the revenge process that only Kiki catches, but this becomes very apparent when one of them goes missing.

prejudice is dealt with in this book. kiki's son eric is a young mixed race child with two white parents. joanna does a pretty good with it.
the mystery is a good one and i really liked getting to know more about clancy and the 'jerk'. her character is so private that i really liked this prolonged peek into her life.
it's again mentioned that her store might have to close someday and i would really like to see an unexpected boon to where she could buy her building and not lose her beloved store. i also think it's time for her old friend to get over herself and finally realize that kiki did nothing wrong and apologize. i miss that old friendship and she, clancy and kiki would be a good 'three musketeers'.
of course joanna is the author and she may have completely different ideas! either way, this was a very good book and i really enjoyed it.

I, like many other people, read for pleasure and entertainment, I don’t want/need a lecture every time I read. The characters are great, although Kiki’s pettiness bordering on selfishness is beginning to wear thin. I REALLY enjoyed the series up until the last 2-3 books, now they’re just becoming too “preachy”. Yes, I know there’s all sorts of hatred and racism in the world, there’s also a lot of anger in the world too! I enjoy reading as a way to take a break from these things. If I want to read about these things I’ll either pick up a newspaper, watch the news, or read a book specifically about the topics....Please go back to telling an interesting story with all our favorite characters without all the lecturing.

I enjoy cozy mysteries when I have a lot going on in my life. This series provided the escape that I needed. The characters are interesting; they face problems in their lives above and beyond amateur sleuthing. The author addresses alcoholism, teen suicides, aging parents and prejudice in a manner that enhances her stories while also giving readers something more to think about if they choose.
There were a minimum of grammar and spelling errors! This is awesome for me because I will stop reading a book if the author doesn't care enough about her/his craft to have it proofread.
I will definitely be reading more by this author. I enjoyed her stories, her characters, her research and her respect for her readers.

I have bought and read the entire series. The characters and their relationships are well written. There are some scary moments that create suspense and have my heart racing. Admittedly no one would stumble across this many crimes and dead people without being a policeman or detective, but Kiki does. The characters support one another through some of the real life issues we all face - rearing children, racial prejudice, the decline and death of our parents, betrayal by those we trust, the large divide between the wealthy and the hard-working middle class, etc. I love her books and highly recommend them.

I’ve read this complete series and although some of the plots are ingenious this one isn’t. All of the books are full of advertising which gets pretty boring unless you are a dedicated crafter and canned fizzy drinker. Not at all sure I’d bother reading any more of this or any other of her books. This one especially needed better proofreading too.
