I almost put this book down. I had such a hard time getting into the story. I have to say that I admired the relationship Amy has with her husband and I really didn't want her to mess that up. The back story was the most interesting part of the book. What a messed up situation.

It’s got an easy, casual diary narrative that keeps the reader fairly interested in this character’s head. She’s a normal person with a dark fantasy—something we can all relate to. The whole thing is pretty long and slow. It takes forever to get to an action sequence. I mean, when does somebody die already? Somebody will die, right?

If you want to hear about a married woman’s life, boredom, and fantasies, then this would be it. And that’s it.

I received this book to give an honest review.

First off the cover and the synopsis called to me on this one. When I started reading the first thing that popped in my mind was this sounds like it is going to be like the TV show Dexter. In some ways I could see it being like that as we learn more about Amy's fantasies and who the people are that become her victims.
Amy is a normal housewife, her husband is an officer and everything seems to go good for them the only thing is her husband doesn't realize that Amy fantasizes literally about killing people and one in particular her best friend. She has been like this since she was little and as we read on there is some back story to why Amy is the way she is.
When Amy actually meets someone who is willing to help her out at first she is skeptical and she has every reason to be. Heck I was to, because there is no way I am going to be telling anyone I am looking up ways to kill folks. I don't care who you are if there is a way it is coming back to me than nope you will not find out.
Then when we find out who exactly he is it is like wow why didn't I think of that, it was a nice little twist to the story, though because of this it starts a domino effect.
Amy's husband being an officer of the law he seemed a bit off to me. It seems he questioned Amy a whole lot which I could understand him doing but it seemed to be over the top at times. Like he was almost controlling but didn't come quite across that way.
This story has some twists and turns and it makes for a great story to be told. I do want to read book two in this series to see how far is Amy willing to go with her fantasies.
I liked this author's writing style and plan on reading more from him.

This is the first time in my memory of reading a book in which the protagonist is a relatively good person - wife, mother, friend - and a wannabe killer. I have seen a couple movies (which probably were inspired by books) that feature serial killer-good guys. I think the movie Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner most closely resembles the story and psyche of the lead character in Killing Katie. Although not a masterpiece, I enjoyed this book. The writing is okay and the the book's plot is orderly. I look forward to reading more books from this series and see how Mr Spangler continues to develop and grow the Amy character and her business relationship with Nerd, while balancing her role as wife and mother.

Amy Sholes is fascinated by murder. Not fascinated by muder mysteries or crime shows, no, Amy Sholes longs to commit murder. She loves her husband and children. She loves her best friend, Katie, even though she spent much of her childhood dreaming of ways to kill her. Amy knew that wasn't serious. She loves Katie. But she wants to kill someone. Her latest fantasies involve people who deserve to die. Maybe she could even make some money doing this. Then she meets someone who is willing to help her.

I did think of Amy as sort of a female Dexter as I was reading this. But Dexter really had to fake emotions. Amy truly loved her family. Dexter left no evidence behind. Amy is an amateur. Her first feeble attempts rain down trouble on her family and friends. Interconnections bring unforeseen consequences. Lies weave tangled webs. And her husband is no dummy....

Getting into Amy's mind was interesting. I don't know if there are actually "nice" people who long to commit murder but it makes for a good story. I really enjoyed it. And I'm a nice person. Really.

Try it if you like an unusual mystery. I think you'll like it.

Amy is lovely woman married to her cop husband with two children. From the outside Amy’s life may have seemed perfect, however, Amy harbors a secret desire to murder people. She had been planning the murder of her best childhood friend forever not because of any animosity but just from a way of practicing her craft. She meets the Nerd a computer whiz who teaches her about the dark web. They go into business doing murder for hire.
Amy is shocked by what happens after her first murder for hire and the unintentional consequences of her actions.

This book has a very twisty plot. I thought that the characters were a little flat.

The synopsis of this book, to me gives the impression that Amy is a talented well versed serial killer already. Now she is but she isn't. As the book starts she hasn't even committed a murder yet. The hunger is there, has been since she was a child. For as long as she can remember she wanted to kill her best friend Katie, but she wouldn't and couldn't ever do it. It was a fantasy. One that she put down on paper. Designs on Katie's murder. When something horrendous happens due to Amy's actions she questions whether becoming a murderer is the best option, but can she quell the urge after getting her first taste? And why is her relationship with her mother so strained?

I liked this book, it's different in a lot of ways I think. It's not perfect, the writing isn't perfect but the subject matter is so intriguing that none of that matters. I may invest in book two to see where Amy goes next!
