About Joanna Campbell Slan
"Our best friend, our next-door neighbor and ourselves with just a touch of the outrageous." That’s how RT Book Review describes Joanna’s protagonist, Kiki Lowenstein. The truth is that’s a pretty good description of Joanna as well.
Joanna is a New York Times Bestselling, USA Today Bestselling, and Amazon Bestselling author as well as a woman prone to frequent bursts of crafting frenzy, leaving her with burns from her hot glue gun and paint on her clothes. And the mess? Let’s not even go there.
Otherwise, she’s a productive author with more than 80 written projects to her credit. Her non-fiction work includes how to books, a college textbook for public speakers, and books of personal essays (think Chicken Soup for the Soul).
Currently she writes four fiction series: The Kiki Lowenstein Mystery Series (Agatha Award Finalist, contemporary, St. Louis setting, crafting), the Cara Mia Delgatto Mystery Series (contemporary, Florida setting, DIY and recycling), the Jane Eyre Chronicles (Daphne du Maurier Award Winner, 1830s England, based on Charlotte Brontë’s classic), and the Sherlock Holmes Fantasy Thrillers (late 1800s, based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s books).
A former TV talk show host, college teacher, and public relations specialist, Joanna was one of the early Chicken Soup for the Soul contributors. She won a Silver Anvil for her work on the original FarmAid concert to benefit farmers.
In her ongoing quest never to see snow again, Joanna lives with her husband and their Havanese puppy, Jax, on an island off the coast of Florida. You can email her at jcslan@joannaslan.com or visit her website at http://www.JoannaSlan.com

Blog postI’m often asked, “How long does it take you to write a book?” The answer is, “Depends on the book.” The Friday Night Mystery Club took me thirty years. I don’t know why. I don’t have a good reason. No, that’s not entirely true. As I recall, I submitted it to my (then) agent, and […]

Blog postI’ve been playing around with my tangles a lot lately, probably because I’m inspired by Eni Oken’s classes. I saw a print on a pillow and that led me to deconstruction of the design. Deconstruction means taking an image apart and figuring out how to replicate it. Actually, here are the steps: Look at the […]

Blog postTuesday was an ordinary but dreary day. The slush had turned to rain around ten the night before. Now all the frozen patches had melted overnight. Perhaps Tuesday seemed normal because it was totally overshadowed by Wednesday, which was the day that Clancy got the phone call. The phone call. I think of it like […]

Blog postPossibly my favorite surface for tangling is … a brown paper bag. I don’t know why I love it so much. Maybe because the size challenges me. Or the contrast of colors. But I always enjoy tangling on a paper bag. I used a thin Sharpie for this, plus a Gellyroll white ink pen. Which […]

Man plans and God laughs. – Anonymous
Cara’s life is spinning out of control. A double-wedding is canceled at the last minute. A baby comes early. Her son decides he hates college. But none of that is as upsetting as the death of a young acquaintance, a delightful food service professional with her whole life ahead of her.
The drive-by shooting has left the cops without a suspect. Maybe it was simply a random act of violence. But Cara’s curiosity, and her innate sense of humanity, drive her to keep asking questions. Who killed the girl with the purple hair? And why?
Of course, Cara has plenty to keep her occupied. “Season” in Florida is the short window of time when visitors from the North come to town and spend money. It’s a make-it or break-it time for a retail shop like The Treasure Chest. It’s also the worst time ever for Cara to learn that her ex-husband is withdrawing his financial support. How will her son finish his education? How will Cara pay the looming tuition bill when she’s knee-deep in the holidays? She can’t even take time off to talk to her banker, given his short Christmas/New Year working hours.
But Cara is nothing if not resourceful. She’s a multi-tasker, and her mind never stops. Add in a generous amount of creativity, and Cara’s practically unstoppable. Except…except…there’s still that unsolved murder. It’s taking up a lot of her psychological energy.
Can Cara keep her head above water? Can she keep her business afloat? Can she rescue her son’s college career? Or is she about to go down with the ship?
Grab your copy today and celebrate a Christmas on the beach with Cara and her friends! (Note: Very small bits of this book appeared in an earlier short story.)
BONUS! TWO BOOKS for the price of one!
When you buy Jingle Bells and Empty Shells, you’ll also receive a full-length copy of the Christmas Crime: Happy Homicides #2! This offer ends on February 1 so grab your copies oday!
IN SUB-ZERO JANURARY, AN INFANT IS ABDUCTED...AND KIKI MIGHT BE THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN TRACK DOWN THE CULPRIT.
The arrival of Kiki's baby is cause for celebration, but Kiki herself suffers from a severe case of post-partum blues. Her mood darkens further when she learns that her friend Bonnie's newborn infant has been stolen from a local hospital. Bonnie is too grief-stricken to help the authorities. Can Kiki pull herself together long enough to step in? Bonnie won't talk to anyone else.
>>>It's a lot to ask of Kiki, especially when the people around her don't recognize the depths of her despair. As with many post-partum sufferers, Kiki is too down to reach out and demand the help she needs. Her brave face is actually hurting her rather than helping. Since she's been typecast as "unsinkable," no one can see how badly she's suffering.
>>>With each hour that passes, the chances of finding Bonnie's baby alive grow slimmer. And Kiki’s funk grows deeper. She’s feeling more and more isolated.
>>>Can someone turn this tragic situation around? Where's Kiki's support network when she needs it?
Glue, Baby, Gone tackles the important and misunderstood problems of pre- and post-partum depression with realism and hope. Readers will enjoy the warm-hearted interaction among the female characters. See why Publisher's Weekly calls Joanna Campbell Slan's books "a cut above the usual craft-themed cozy."

TWO FBI AGENTS COME LOOKING FOR KIKI'S NANNY, AND SUDDENLY THE HOUSEHOLD IS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN.
Kiki and her husband must ask themselves the toughest question they'll ever have to face: Can we trust this person with our kids?
>>>The answer might say more about them than it does about their nanny, Brawny.
But how can you trust someone whose whole life has been a lie? And boy, oh, boy, do Brawny's secrets bring up trust issues for everyone under Kiki's roof. Especially for Kiki's sensitive, thirteen-year-old daughter. (Will she ever get over this betrayal?)
>>>It all starts when a totally forgettable woman is found shot dead in her car… and whose fault is that? Given the number of blended families today, can a step-parent ever catch a break? Was the murder a drive-by shooting gone wrong? Or an intentional, targeted murder?
>>>One of Kiki's friends is accused of hiring a hitman, after a cashier's check for a million dollars goes missing. It's a puzzle with too many pieces, but Kiki's determined to see justice done.
>>>With a plot so timely it could have been ripped right out of the headlines, and questions as old as motherhood itself, Fatal, Family, Album works on a variety of levels. What do we owe the children of other people? How much can we ever trust another person? When do we, as parents, know it's time to trust our kids to make important decisions? And which love should prevail: that of one spouse for the other, or a parent for a child?

When a customer drops dead during an offsite event, this intrepid scrapbooking sleuth is left holding the bag. After her name is cleared, Kiki isn't one to sit around while her friends are threatened with false imprisonment.
>>>Instead, she vows to wrap up this case and tie it with a bow. Leave it to Kiki to determine who was nice, and who was very, very naughty, indeed. A nasty Christmas Grinch is targeting one of Kiki's friends--and that's just not kosher. No way is Kiki going to take a back seat in Santa's sled while one of her pals is thrown under the bus. Besides, the murder weapon itself just plain "bugs" her.
>>>Kiki might not qualify as Santa's Helper, but she's definitely on the “good girl” list. She plans to make these murder charges stick like a fresh roll of Scotch tape as she pins down her suspect. Meanwhile, the entire crew at her store is working hard to carry out her Twelve Days of Christmas crafting extravaganza! That's one busy Santa's workshop.
