Hit and Run: Moreno & Hart Mysteries, Book 2 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
New York Times bestselling and award-winning authors Allison Brennan and Laura Griffin team up for their second book featuring the unforgettable Southern California detective duo, Moreno & Hart.
Danger comes from all sides as private investigators Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart tackle two new cases:
Scarlet Moreno gets a panicked call from long-time friend Jason Jones, an LAPD street cop wanted for killing his girlfriend. Paranoid with no one to trust, he reaches out to Scarlet for help. Before they can figure out who set him up, a SWAT team descends, Jason runs, and Scarlet is left with questions she can't answer when the police show up. She's determined to prove Jason innocent, but the cops want him behind bars and someone else wants him dead. As Scarlet digs deeper into the murky case, she realizes that whoever is framing Jason wants her dead, too - and it might connect to the ambush that nearly killed her and Krista three years ago.
Krista Hart doesn’t want to team up with rival private detective R.J. Flynn. And she definitely doesn’t want to help an unscrupulous trial lawyer get away with murder. But when R.J. pulls her into his latest high-profile case, Krista realizes that nothing about the murder of a beautiful Laguna Beach housewife is quite what it seems. Krista sets out to uncover the truth - no matter whose side it helps - and manages to provoke all the wrong people, including a vicious murderer who won’t hesitate to kill again and then make a run.

Please Note: Because of connecting events and background information however, this is one of those books that should really not be read out of order. So be sure to pick up "CRASH AND BURN" first, otherwise you'll probably be left feeling like you're missing some pieces of the puzzle.
HIT by Allison Brennan - 4 Stars
When a street cop and old childhood friend of Scarlet's is accused of killing his girlfriend who also happened to be his partner on the force, Scarlet steps in to try and discover who set him up. But as she digs deeper into the case she finds a link between this framing and the ambush that nearly killed her and Krista on that fateful day three years ago.
I liked this novella by Ms. Brennan a little better than her first in the series. It takes place approximately three weeks after "Crash and Burn" and was action packed and overall just an entertaining mystery from start to finish. And while I didn't originally fall in love with Scarlet, she did grow on me a bit more in this story. She shows a little more emotion here and I also found the relationship between her and Alex (her sort-of boyfriend) more believable too. In the end it was a solid addition to the series and I can't wait for the day Scarlet discovers who set her up to die three years earlier.
RUN by Laura Griffin - 4.5 Stars
Against her better judgment, Krista allows herself to be pulled into another case with rival investigator R.J. Flynn. This one involves a slimeball lawyer accused of murdering his beautiful, soon to be ex-wife. It doesn't take long for Krista to realize that something is off though. Unfortunately, Krista's digging has put her in the crosshairs of a vicious killer.
Once again Ms. Griffin's novella happened to be my favorite of the two. I just find Krista not only more likable than Scarlet's character, but also infinitely more lovable. She and R.J. (her love interest) are not only both very charismatic, but their chemistry is absolutely amazing too. As for the mystery itself there were plenty of twists, the killer was a complete shocker, and the conclusion is not at all what I expected. I'm not only looking forward to seeing what case Krista and R.J. are onto next, but I cannot wait to see what life has in store for these two on a much more personal level also.

For Laura’s Griffins part P.I R.J. Flynn pulls Krista Hart into a case he is working on that turns out to be more than what any of them thought it would be. Krista still doesn’t trust R.J but Moreno & Hart needs the money that he gives her as a retainer. What she thought was a clear case of a husband killing his wife turns out to be much more complex as she starts digging into and re-interviewing witnesses and following her gut. I still don’t know what to make of R.J. Yes he’s handsome but I don’t think we’ve seen all his layers yet and I agree with Krista about being leery of jumping into a relationship with him before he shows more of those layers.
All in all both stories were great. I’ve really come to like both of these strong willed women who are doing their best to survive in a man’s world. Cant wait for the next installment in the series.
I am a huge fan of Laura Griffin and her Tracers novels, and thanks to this series, I am now reading some of Allison Brennan's past books. In their latest collaboration both authors 'bring it' with solid story lines, strong female characters, and just the right amount of romance. I really enjoy how the authors are developing their characters from book one. I also appreciate how both characters, Scarlet Moreno and Krista Hart, have their own individual cases and story lines with some interaction of characters between both books. These female main characters are strong, smart, independent women who can take care of themselves, kick some butt when necessary, and don't need to stand around and wait to be rescued by the men in their lives!
I am looking forward to the continuation of this series!
