A long time ago in a distant fairytale countryside, a young girl (Sophia Lillis) leads her little brother (newcomer Samuel J. Leakey) into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.

The two things praise about this movie is some of the acting and the cinematography. An already short movie that could've been cut in half. Only would recommend if you only watch movies for the visuals. Story line makes almost no sense, it's not scary and everything felt like it was moving at the pace of a very slow snail.
Ever since the Blackcoat's Daughter, and I am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, I have been craving more from this director. This film was exactly what I'd hoped it would be when I saw the trailers. It did not disappoint. This film is Not for everyone. The films might seem bland and slow to most, but I found it very tasteful and was mesmerized from the beginning. I look forward to more from Oz Perkins.
If you truly enjoy more than just mindless action and surface layer story telling, give this a shot. It`s not meant to be scary, it`s meant to be taken seriously as an adaptation. The only thing wrong with this film is the fact they chose to use CGI in a few scenes.
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Sophia Lillis is proving to be a great actor. I thought the story, though familiar, had enough little twists and custom nuances that it stayed interesting. The pacing in my opinion is just right. There isn't an excessive amount of blood, gore, or violence. Very good movie, great entry into the horror genre. A purchase I don't regret.
The movie was amazing! I loved the story and how it evolved. The acting was brilliant and it was casted very well. The darkness and detail in the cinematography I felt was an art form within itself. Two thumbs up!
Horrible waste of time and money! So, I am not super picky when it comes to scary movies. I enjoy some good B movies. I read these reviews and because I don’t mind B movies and because a lot of them time I will enjoy a movie that has low ratings. Not on this one. Y’all seriously, take this from a very non picky horror/thriller addict, this movie is not even worth spending your precious time watching even if it’s free! I kept waiting on it to move on to something scary. It never did. It never got scary or good and was just boring. I could have made a better movie on my phone with my kids than this movie was. One of the very worst movies I’ve ever seen! Anyway, just keeping it real here. Seriously rent another movie. If it’s free, spend you’re precious time watching something good.
1.0 out of 5 starsNot fantastic enough to watch again.

OK I admit it, I was looking for atmosphere, stunning effects, fantasy costumes, a wow factor! Errrrr no! The storyline, well I'm stumped, was there one? I couldn't find one, some of the scenes were atmospheric, the witches house was black, black oh and black! Not one I'll keep I'm afraid.
