After 9/11, the United States made one of the most secretive and dangerous deals in its history—the evidence against the powerful Saudis who coordinated the attack would be buried and in return, King Faisal would promise to keep the oil flowing and deal with the conspirators in his midst.
But when the king’s own nephew is discovered funding ISIS, the furious President gives Rapp his next mission: he must find out more about the high-level Saudis involved in the scheme and kill them. The catch? Rapp will get no support from the United States.
Forced to make a decision that will change his life forever, Rapp quits the CIA and assembles a group of independent contractors to help him complete the mission. They’ve barely begun unraveling the connections between the Saudi government and ISIS when the brilliant new head of the intelligence directorate discovers their efforts. With Rapp getting too close, he threatens to go public with the details of the post-9/11 agreement between the two countries. Facing an international incident that could end his political career, the President orders America’s intelligence agencies to join the Saudis’ effort to hunt the former CIA man down.
Rapp, supported only by a team of mercenaries with dubious allegiances, finds himself at the center of the most elaborate manhunt in history. With white-knuckled twists and turns leading to “an explosive climax” (Publishers Weekly), Enemy of the State is an unputdownable thrill ride that will keep you guessing until the final page.

When United States President Josh Alexander discovers that a member of the Saudi royal family is using money made off of the United States alliance to fund ISIS, who can the President call?
In a midnight meeting only between the President and Mitch Rapp, President Alexander explains to Rapp that the enemy must be stopped by any means necessary.
The Saudi King Faisal is old and aging, and unbeknownst to him, Aali Nassar, of the General Intelligence Directorate is planning on attacking Americans, on American soil.
Rapp, citing health-related reasons, quits the CIA, as the mission is completely off-book. Building a team of his own, Rapp must stop the Saudi's before they can attack America. As Rapp travels to the Middle East, he finds himself face-to-face with a former opponent, and arguably, one of Rapp's toughest, most formidable opponents, Grisha Azarov.
Meanwhile, back in the United States, it appears that someone is trying to frame Rapp for issues in the Middle East.
Rapp traverses the Middle East, Sudan, and everywhere in between while trying to avoid not only ISIS, but the person trying to frame him.
Kyle Mills had no problem picking up where Vince Flynn left off in The Survivor, and additionally had an amazing book with Order to Kill, introducing us to one of Rapp's toughest opponents to date. Enemy of the State, however, is the strongest book yet. Mills does a fantastic job weaving in old characters that we haven't seen in years, while also creating new characters of his own. You can sense the humor that Mills injects into his writing and also his style, but it hasn't taken anything away from what Vince did with the beginning of the series.
With all of the twists and turns, as well as not being able to turn the pages quick enough, this is a perfect book for all thriller fans out there. This book is going to be one of the best of the year, so order it now.
Audiobook Review: Yes, it is quite strange not having George Guidall, who is arguably one of the best narrators today, narrate this novel, but as Guidall has chosen to slow down, Scott Brick is the ideal candidate to fill the void. Guidall has his own style and is able to infuse that into the series, but Scott Brick is no amateur. I think listeners will have a tough time getting over the fact that George Guidall is not narrating, and in turn, will give a poor review of the audiobook. The audiobook was well produced and well performed. If you absolutely love Guidall, I would recommend reading instead of listening. If a new narrator doesn't bother you, give it a listen.

Enemy of the State brings back some very special characters from the past, some good and some bad. When I say bad, I don’t mean they were a bad choice, I mean they’re BAD to the bone character wise.
Other fan favorites are also back, Scott Coleman is still recovering but is eager to return to the field and Mike Nash is being built up as a potential player on a whole different level. Dr. Irene Kennedy is of course as impressive as always in her craft and her son Tommy is mentioned quite a bit as always.
In Order to Kill, Kyle hints at a potential relationship for Mitch which I am happy to see moving forward and being a very good thing for Mitch. In fact, Enemy of the State ends on a very good note which finally has Mitch having everything he’s been missing in life. The seismic like activities created in these pages are sure to get you thinking as deep as Mitch is, regarding his past, present and future.
As I mentioned, and then completely went in another direction, in this book we see Mitch Rapp unleashed like never before. In this MUST-READ thriller, he goes rogue and is left to deal with certain situations how best he sees fit. For example, his mission planning is interrupted by a local thug and he deals with him in a quick and permanent as well as bad ass move.
Kyle throws in so many fun easter eggs that are sure to pop out at you if you’re a longtime fan of the series. Along with those, the action, dialogue and story line are sure to capture you from the very first page. Enemy of the State starts off with Mitch fulfilling a promise he made in Order to Kill. While doing so, a longtime favorite character is also mentioned, as Rapp mentions his training so long ago from the pages of American Assassin. To conclude my rambling, Enemy of the State is definitely 5 stars worthy and another winner for Kyle Mills.

This was okay, but seemed to be missing something. Rapp as a character is a bull in a china shop, charging in with an utter force of nature. In this there are frequent mentions that people are terrified of him, but in his actions he just comes over as a typical black ops agent. It’s okay but just doesn’t have that force of personality that we would expect.
