For more than a decade, CIA superagent Mitch Rapp has been on the front line of the war on terror. Now, he’s on a race against time to save one more life—his own—in this “fast, fun read” (People).
The influential father of a slain terrorist demands retribution for the death of his son at Rapp’s hands. In the tangled, duplicitous world of espionage there are those, even among America’s allies, who feel Mitch Rapp has grown too effective at his deadly job. They have been looking for an excuse to eliminate the number one counterterrorism operative, and they are determined to seize the chance with an explosive international conspiracy. Now the hunter is the hunted, and Rapp must rely on his razor-sharp instincts for survival—and justice—as he unleashes his fury on those who have betrayed him.

To kill a man is a relatively easy thing--especially the average unsuspecting man. To kill a man like Mitch Rapp, however, was an entirely different matter. It would take a great deal of planning and a very talented assassin, or more likely assassins who were either brave enough or crazy enough to accept the job. The latter was more than likely the type who would take on the challenge, for any sane man by definition would have the sense to walk away.
Even with the element of surprise on their side, though, they would need to catch Rapp with his guard down so they could get in close enough to finish him off once and for all. The preliminary report on his vigilance did not look good. The American was either hyperalert or insanely paranoid. Every detail of their plan would have to come together perfectly, and even then, they would need some luck. They'd calculated that their odds for success were probably seventy percent at best. That was why they needed complete deniability. If whoever they sent failed, Rapp would come looking for them. And despite their positions of great power, they had no intention of spending the rest of their lives with a man like Mitch Rapp hunting them.

Vince Flynn's approach is heavy on understanding how politics can go wrong, and moral issues involving killing, etc. Of course, this is handled in a very readable way in the plot.
Flynn does teach you about the world, but Brad Thor has much more emphasis on describing places that you probably don't know much about and their history. Jack Carr follows Thor's approach to a large extent, but throws in more information about weapons and equipment.
This particular book is one of my favorites in the series.
The reason this is only 4 stars and not 5 is because of Rapp's operation in the beginning. It was a nice short little op where he took out a terrorist and created a publicity stunt but my problem is that it hardly had to do with the rest of the book. It helped a small bit in angering some of the higher-ups in Washington but let's face it - Rapp is never really concerned about that, nor should he be. I understand that the op was needed in order to give a brief description of Rapp's competence in the field in order to make the book more stand-alone but it would have been nice if it was tied in a bit more with the rest of the story. Perhaps this person he killed was a close friend to Prince Rashid, which prompted him to actually make Rapp's death a high priority. But that part is no more than 30 pages of the 550 page book, so whatever.
But with the rest of the story, what compelled me the most about it was that Flynn wrote how seriously the bad guys took this assignment and he really stressed the urgency of success or total failure - that if they failed at killing Rapp, he would hunt them down and destroy them, and he could do it. He beat the concept so hard, I started to get less and less convinced of it, but now I understand that it was his point all along because when Rapp sprung into action, that just made it all the better. I also really like how the pace of the book got faster and faster and faster, and the ending was also very appealing.
All in all, definitely a book worth reading if you're a fan of the Mitch Rapp series. I would not recommend this being the first book to read in the series, but definitely a great addition.

Anna Reilly was by most readers posts unlocked, dull and a distraction. Then she seems to be better and she is written out. It makes the rest of the novels easier to write without a limiting factor like child and wife.
This book is excellent, giving multi faceted points on politics, espionage and international relations and banking. Anyone with a brain must know not to try and kill Rapp. But it did make it a great revenge thriller.

Consent to Kill started of with Mitch Rapp's life being near perfect with a happy end in sight. His only problem being the new Director of Intelligence or so it seems but as it continues the threat is made and a "bounty" is placed on his head a whopping $22 million in all. A brilliant book, well written twists and turns all the way throughout, an emotional rollercoaster of a story. A must read, can be read as a stand-alone book, but I feel having read the series, you will find the emotional impact and the I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HAS JUST HAPPENED a very powerful tool in Vince Flynn's writing.
SPOILER,
Pregnancy for Anna Rapp and the hopes and dreams you want for them all changes in a split second and she and the unborn child are killed an Mitch survives and has to grieve once again for the love of his life and the future that no longer exists. Kennedy is told by the powers of the Cabinet members to stop him avenging his wife's death but the President later tells her Mitch has his consent to Kill anyone who is involved.
The assassin's are brilliantly written with the background in the story as it unfolds and at each step of the main characters you find out what their doing parallel to the others.
Claudia then finds she is pregnant too but is unaware that Anna is an asks Gould to spare her. He doesn't and they in turn split with her telling all and asking for the time to have her baby and be able to hold him or her. Gould returns and she has to tell him this, unsure of his reaction.
It ends with Rapp finding them an their newly born daughter named Anna.
Read and you will definitely be in tears throughout this book.
Strongly recommend that this is a book to read, maybe one of the best. Can't wait to find out what else is in store for Mitch Rapp.
