John Wayne playing the Role of "Big Jake" as only he can. If you look closely at the ensemble cast, you'll see actors Like Bruce Cabot who played with John Wayne since at least the 40s, in B&W films like "Angel And The Bad Man". Harry Carey Jr. who literally grew up acting in John Wayne films. The Ever Radiant Maureen O'Hara who goes all the way back with John Wayne to "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon", "Rio Grande", Mclintock and the Unforgettable "The Quiet Man".
Then add Wayne's sons Patrick and Ethan, along with Robert Mitchum's son Christopher, Glenn Corbett and legendary actor Richard Boone assisted by a multi talented cast of supporting actors & the obligatory "Young Up & Comer" Bobby Vinton, who joined others like James Caan, Rickey Nelson & others in Wayne Movies, to prove their "Acting Chops", and you have all the makings of a great John Wayne Western.
This is one of the films by The Duke that I watch over and over, along with the films mentioned earlier, and they, like Big Jake, never disappoint. It ain't Olivier playing Hamlet, but that's not my cup of tea anyway, and I'll take Big Jake any day over more recent and much poorer offerings in the "Western Genre". I expect Wayne to do what he does best...Play John Wayne.....and he certainly hits the bullseye with Big Jake
