My First Time

This was my first LoG album and it blew me away. As some of my reviews have talked about how much I dislike "cookie monster" vocals in Metal, you may be surprised that I love LoG. My response is that Randall Blythe does NOT sound like a Muppet. Mr. Blythe is not just growling into the microphone, he is screaming at the top of this lungs. The passion of his vocals is one of the reasons I started listening to LoG in the first place and have stayed with them until the present day.

The first two songs on this album, "The Passing" and "In Your Words" are magnificent. Of course the rest of the album is great too, but the first two songs made me a LoG fan immediately. "Set to Fail" and "Grace" are excellent showcases for Mr. Blythe's vocal violence. You really should give this fine album a listen. You'll be glad you did. Highly recommended.

I'll probably review the rest of my LoG collection (all of them from Wrath onward). Stay tuned.

I just recently got this album after already having 4 other albums by Lamb of God and it's awesome! I guess this in one of their older albums but damn these guys always had excellent songwriting skills! I am a metal guitarist and songwriter myself and I have the deepest respect for this group, they know how to put together a musically interesting song that kicks ass, impressive guys!

Had my eye on grabbing a vinyl copy of this for a while and finally jumped since the price was so low. Overall the album sounds great but the vinyl quality is awful. I returned one and got a second and wound up returning that as well. After taking the album out of the sleeve, there was a dusty spot at the top where the liner didn't cover which I thought was weird. The hole in the vinyl was to small for the turntable post as well. The first side played relatively clean, but on side two there was an extremely bad skip in the middle of Ashes of The Wake. This happened both albums in the same spot. Disappointed in the quality to say the least

This is probably my favorite Lamb of God Album. Getting into vinyl recordings as of late, I decided to get "Ashes of the Wake" in LP form. I am specifically reviewing the vinyl recording, which is pretty good. Compared to other digitally recorded or re-mastered albums that are pressed onto 180 gram vinyl, the sound quality is mediocre, but still favorable. It is pretty cool that newer recordings are even being pressed in vinyl, so I'm happy to have it to add to my collection.
I would like to say; if you are new to vinyl, all recordings are not made equal, and this one is just OK. It does come with a free digital download to get the same album in MP3 format for free.
UPDATE: Almost six years later... I recently did a total overhaul on my sound system. New speakers, amp, turntable, the works. I've listened to this LP at least ten times on the new system and I have to say, sound quality is really good. I may have misjudged it on my mediocre system thinking it was a mediocre album. Sound quality is actually great, and for not being a special 180g remastered, audiophile (insert more pretentious terms here) it sounds terrific. Besides, since I got this, LoG has released quite a few albums, and this is still undoubtedly my favorite. If you're into metal, LoG and vinyl, it's a must have!

Bone-crushing brutality from start to finish here on AotW. I never get tired of hearing Now You've Got Something to Die For, Hourglass, and The Faded Line and all the other tracks are phenomenal as well. Chris Adler's drumming here makes my jaw drop; especially on the aforementioned track The Faded Line with his flawless mix of brutality and rhythm

This one is unrelenting in L.O.G.'s thrask, hard-core, punk mash-up style that grooves like nobody's business! I was hooked when I first heard Omerta and Now You've Got Something To Die For. Blood Of The Scribe and Laid To Rest also rule. Can't beat it!

Lamb of God's best album on vinyl what could be better. Although this sounds no different to the cd version because... DIGITAL It is still epically cool to have it on vinyl because the artwork looks so much better I would buy it again just for the artwork if I had to. However that says too little about the brilliant music the band offer up on this album. They are groovy songs with big catchy lead hooks, Scorched vocals and complex arrangements of drums. It really is LOG at their best

Ashes Of The Wake is Lamb Of God's Third full length studio album. The album is decidedly more polished and cleaner than its predecessors, with producer Machine (that's his name) taking the helm for the first time and really driving for clarity in a way previously unheard of on a Lamb Of God album.

Apart from the new cleaner production, the first thing you'll notice about Ashes is the songwriting, Lamb Of God hit onto the perfect formula for writing catchy singles and crowd pleasing songs that instantly feel familiar, that have hooks and that most importantly are highly memorable.

While the earlier material was awesome, it was harder to familiarize yourself with and songs would take a great many listens before you understood how they worked or remembered what came next, with Ashes everything just clicks.
The combination of a less brash production and more accessible songs may be unpalatable to some fans of the earlier output but its hard to deny the sheer quality of music.

The musicianship is of the highest standard, head and shoulders above many of their peers both technically and creatively each Lamb of God member seems handpicked because he was the best in his field.

The album is chocked full of career highlights from the excellent politically fused `One Gun,' or the introspective `What I've Become,' to singles `Now You've Got Something To Die For,' and `Laid To Rest,' nothing is ever short of excellent.

Chris Poland once again returns with guest guitar contributions are once again welcome and don't feel out of place whatsoever on the fantastic instrumental title track.

Ashes Of The Wake may have a more commercial production but its hard to complain when the music is this good.
